LBS MiM vs LSE M&S

Hi all,

I would like to know which postgraduate degree is better given my background and my interests: I am a Senior Aerospace undergraduate at Madrid, and I would to break into (strategy) consulting at London or Madrid (obviously, I preferMBBbut I think that Deloitte, Oliver Wyman, A.T. Kearney or a multinational company are a good start before entering MBB). I don't have relevant internships in the sector (I just completed an internship as an Engineer last summer), but I don't want to do a two-year program because of the cost attendance and because I prefer professional experience and then anMBA. The case is that I would like to know which of the following masters would be better for someone like me:

  1. London Business School Master in Management (1 year): networking, strong career services, nice campus but it doesn't make senseMBAafter MiM?

  2. London School of Economics Master in Management and Strategy (1 year): more reputation thanLBS,MBAoption open after work experience, more interesting courses but does it place well? Is it well-regarded in industry?

Anyone who coursed one of the masters can share his insights? Thank you.

You are unfortunately ill-informed and mistaken on a number of issues. Let me shed a light on a number of your expressed assumptions cited above.

Monkey.D.:
1. London Business School Master in Management (1 year): but it doesn't make senseMBAafter MiM?

MBAafter MiM makes perfect sense. You should regard the Top European 1-year MiM as the senior year of an Ivy Target UG Senior Year. In fact, tons of european graduates from those strong European MiM end up pursuingM7MBAprograms 3-to-5-years years later, down the line. I have seen a slew of LinkedIn profiles that can attest to that.

(Example of a female MexicanLBSMiM Graduate, currently enrolled at GSB. Covered by the FT:https://www.ft.com/content/9974734c-7e06-11e8-af48-190d103e32a4 ;
TheFTpreviously covered another female IndianLBSMiM Graduate who similarly pursued anHBSMBA, back in 2012)

Monkey.D.:
2. London School of Economics Master in Management and Strategy (1 year): more reputation thanLBS,MBAoption open after work experience, more interesting courses but does it place well? Is it well-regarded in industry?

Your stated claim on LSE's reputation>LBS's is highly contestable, questionable, dubious, and disputable. Such reputation attributed toLSE, in a similar manner with UCL, Imperial, and other top UG UK programs, primarily related to their UG offerings.

Indeed, when it comes strictly to graduate business-oriented programs,LBSis probably the best possible brandname to have. At least in the US, it is the school that is most known by admission consultants, companies, etc. And it is also very well-regarded upon by global offices of consulting firms.

For those two reasons, that I think take care of your two main doubts, I would strongly (& humbly) advise you to make theLBSMiM your top target program to apply to.

Best Regards.

Unfair to say that LSE' MSc reputation is helped only by its undergrad offerings, given it has more postgrads than undergrads, has some of the, if not the best MSc Finance (and related, e.g. MSc A+F) courses in the country, and still has a pretty competitive MSc Management programme.

However I do agree in thatLBSis stronger thanLSEwhen it comes to the courses mentioned, as well as with regards to their connections with top consulting firms.

Don Quixote:

Thank you for the thorough answer. You are probably right, and I think that going to business school is the best choice for me.

It depends also on your GMAT score. Even though the MIM average gmat score is lower than that of the MFA programme, i think it is higher that theLSEm&s. Additionally, the admission rate is not that high and a lot of high calibre students apply there. Therefore, be realistic and assess your profile using an objective perspective. JM2C

BothLSEandLBSwill put at the door, so I would not discuss about which is better at getting you a job but instead, which school you will fit better and enjoy more

I disagree -LSEmay be stronger in the US, butLBSis anMBAfactory in Europe forMBBand others, because of thisLBShas strong alumni networks everywhere in Europe asMBBconsultants trickle down to companies boards andPEs. In short words, because of theMBAI think that LBS' network in Europe is better than LSE's
