Transition from Dentist to MBA/Consulting: would being an Assistant Professor at a new dental school be a good transition idea?
Hi all - currently a dentist who is seeking a career change through consulting or applying for anMBAprogram. As of right now, I work as a clinician full time, and as you can imagine, there isn't much to write about that on a resume.
I'm seeking a career change by reapplying foradvanced degreeMBBspots (I've talked to a couple dentists who have made that transition) or to business school. In the meantime, a new dental school is opening up in the city I live in and they have positions for Assistant Professors to teach. I might have some other admin duties on top of teaching, but as far as I know, teaching is the main task.
Will being a professor reflect more positively on anMBAapplication over being a full-time clinician? I imagine so, especially with potential letters of recommendation from deans/associate deans, but business school applications are beyond me. Any advice would be appreciated.

So you're considering becoming a professor so that you can go back to school and become a student?

Funny way to look at it! Wish changing careers was a simpler endeavor.
Aren't you career committed at this point? Dentistry school is expensive from what i hear…..
What is your motivation for leaving?
It's a rather expensive education, definitely. Motivation for leaving, simply put, is that I do not enjoy (and am becoming rather miserable) doing nonstop clinical/physical work. Not intellectually stimulating and not passionate about it. In other words, hit me hard that I went into it for the wrong reasons and trying to make amends before I really get stuck in the golden handcuffs.
pretty sure that there is something in the healthcare /growth equityspace that is there for you.
Appreciate the thought. I've honestly been exploring for quite a while with no dice and have networked quite a bit. If you have any ideas to consider, would love to hear from you! Feel free to PM.
