Ghosting after seemingly great interviews
Had a first round phone screen with Head of the department (let's call him A). He then passed my resume to his colleague (B) and said he wanted me to talk to B. My interview with B was very chill, almost like a conversation. He mainly walked me through past projects, gauged my interest and asked me about my project outside of school. B said A spoke highly of me, and he really liked my energy and thought my skill set will be valuable for this position. He also said I'd like the city when asked about my hobby.

Sadly this is the reality of not just finance but the entire professional world. Get used to it as it won't be the last time. It's dumb but is what it is.
Have you followed up?
Hmm, maybe they got busy or something. Like you said, you don't know the timeline so a week might not be long enough to worry. You could always reach back out to them and gauge their reaction on that.
It's also earning season, I would follow up.

After a while you get used to the overnight automated template emails of "While your background was impressive, we've decided to move forward with other candidates at this time." It's just an unfortunate day to day reality of dealing with corporate culture these days.
Hiring needs tend to be pretty fluid so I'd follow up now certainly, especially if you thought it was a solid interview. Keep a dialogue going until they say no or give you an offer.
One thing that genuinely confused me was that I had a recruiter reach out to me and was pushing me to consider them. Had a call and it was just him explaining the company. Then never responded to me anymore.
I guess things just be like that sometimes.
